Zepheniah Adolphus Samuels endearingly known as “Zeph” was born on September 27, 1935, to Rhoda and Abraham Samuels in Hanover, Jamaica W.I. He was the fifth child of his nine siblings. He attended Church Hill primary school. As a youth, he attended the March Town SDA church in Hanover, Jamaica. He later migrated to Montego Bay, Jamaica at a 16 to stay with his oldest sister. After coming to Montego Bay, he attended the Montego Bay SDA church where he was baptized. During his time in Montego Bay, he attended trade school where he took basic auto mechanic courses. He later worked as a ward assistant at Cornwall Regional Hospital for 3 years.
After deciding to seek a better life with more opportunities, Zepheniah migrated to the US where he was recruited into the US Farm Worker Program. His contributions included cooking and working out in the field. During his travels back and forth to the United States he attended Queens Evening Trade School where he enrolled in plumbing classes. He later met and married Daisy (formerly Hall) Samuels at the age of 28. Zepheniah enjoyed various hobbies such as watching cowboy shows, weightlifting, and playing dominoes. He was also very skilled in designing straw hats.
In 1979, Zepheniah moved to Bronx, NY permanently with his wife and youngest child Delorine. The other two boys Roy and Trevor arrived in New York a few years later. He worked at Jewish Home and Hospital for Aged Kingsbridge Center and received his certification as a nursing aide. He worked there for 7 years. * While in New York they became active members of the Grand Concourse SDA church in Bronx, NY. Zepheniah was ordained as a deacon where he served for over 25 years. While he attended Grand Concourse SDA church he was involved in prison ministries with his close friend and prison partner Brother Thomas. Zepheniah developed a love for studying Daniel and Revelation and was well versed in obtaining the answers to the Daniel & Revelation study guides.
Zepheniah graduated from NY Technical College in 1987. He received an Associate of Applied Science in Environmental Control Technology. He started working at Bronx Lebanon Hospital in 1989 as a HVAC mechanic. During his time here he also enrolled in on the job training in boiler maintenance and repair, plant maintenance, basic plumbing and electrical classes at Bronx Community College. Zepheniah retired from Bronx Labanon Hospital center in 2005. He retired with 14 years of dedicated service. In the following year in 2006 he relocated to Kissimmee, FL and joined the Mount Zion SDA Church. During his time at the church, he continued in his love of prison ministries and giving Bible studies. During his retirement years he spent mostly in the garden and in the Recreational center gym in the housing development where he lived. Zeph enjoyed gardening and sharing his crops with neighbors, church family and friends.
Zepheniah Samuels passed away on June 2, 2025, at his home with his family. He will be greatly missed but his memory will always be in our hearts. He was preceded in death by his parents Abraham and Rhoda Samuels, brothers Nehemiah Samuels, Edgar Samuels, sisters Lelia Samuels, Eugenie Samuels, Evelyn Samuels and niece Angela Haddo-Ricketts. He leaves behind his wife, Daisy Samuels, his children Roy Samuels, Trevor Samuels and Delorine Samuels and his granddaughter Nicollette Samuels and daughter-in-law Paula Samuels. He also leaves behind his surviving siblings Randolph Samuels, Clinton Samuels, Ivelyn Linton, and Triphena Foster. He is also fondly remembered and treasured by Karen Davis, who he cherished like a daughter and held a special place in his heart. His extended family included several nieces, nephews, church family, neighbors, and close friends. May he rest in peace with the hope of the coming of our Lord Jesus. His memory will live on in our hearts of his quiet, gentle and peaceful nature.
