Ms. Sylvia Nelson, a passionate, loving, and strong-willed woman of faith, passed away at age 80 years old on March 6th, 2026. She was born to Sabertha and Gladston Williams in Jamaica, West Indies, on September 25th, 1945. Sylvia shared close and caring relationships with her seven siblings: Willell, Amy, Jonathan, Sebastian, Kenneth, Irvin, and Alvin. Later in life, she married Keith Nelson and began her own family. She moved to the United States and eventually settled in Brooklyn, New York, where she was blessed with four sons--Junior, Johnny, Paul, and David--whom she loved deeply.
Sylvia dedicated 25 years of her career to working at the Marriott Marquis in Manhattan, New York, before retiring. Throughout her tenure, she exhibited diligence, excellence, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. Her warm and welcoming smile, along with her strong work ethic, earned her many friends and accolades. Sylvia's dedication was recognized with three Gold Star awards and special recognition from Mr. Marriott, who personally congratulated her.
After retiring, Sylvia relocated to Florida, where she enjoyed spending time with her sons and family members. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to those around her. Sylvia loved gardening, watching television, and connecting with people in her community. She often assisted neighbors in need and developed special relationships with those she encountered in daily life.
Sylvia was known for her joyful spirit, infectious smile, and beautiful personality. She loved to laugh and brought happiness to everyone she met. Sylvia was loved by many and cherished by all who crossed her path. She will be forever loved and missed.
A visitation will be held for Sylvia on Sunday, March 29th, at 10 a.m. A Celebration of Life will start at 11 a.m. immediately following the visitation. All services will be held at Poinciana SDA Church in Poinciana, Fl.
