It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Karen Jean Johnson, affectionately known as CJ or Karen Jean, whose gentle spirit and vibrant energy graced the lives of many. Born on October 23, 1965, in Fairfax, South Carolina, she departed this world on 5, 2026, Lakeland, Florida, where her legacy will forever resonate.
Karen Jean was a beacon of light, characterized by her caring nature and infectious humor. She was not merely loved; she was adored by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. With a personality that could brighten the darkest of days, she always kept it real, endearing herself to all with her authenticity and kindness. Her remarkable talent on the basketball court and track fields during her time at Kathleen High School marked her as a standout athlete, a reflection of her unyielding determination and spirited zest for life.
Her family, who remain to honor her memory, includes her beloved children: Shoshanna Johnson, Carlton Martindale Jr., Malik Jordan, Shadiqua Patton, Carlisa Sullivan, and Carlnesha Ferdinand. Each of these individuals carries forward her legacy, enriched by the values she instilled and the love she imparted. The joy Karen Jean found in her grandchildren was palpable; they were her pride and joy: Kameron D. Sullivan, Kelvin D. Sullivan, My’Shon Johnson, Jerzi Patton, Demaria Young, Malik Jordan Jr., Kelvon West, Makhi Jordan, Malaysia Jordan, Peyton Jordan, and Massiah Jordan, each of whom will surely cherish the memories of their grandmother with everlasting fondness.
She shared her life with two devoted siblings, Moses Johnson Jr. and Melissa Johnson, who supported her through the years, as well as a host of nieces and nephews: Jermaine D. Johnson, Amari Johnson, Detangelia Williams (Jonathan), Keycierra Johnson, Moses Johnson III (Jenobia), Isaac Johnson, Tavarus Johnson, Dyman’e Johnson, and Zaniyah Johnson. United in their love for her, they remember her not only for her laughter but for the strength that she embodied.
Karen Jean joins the embrace of those beloved family members who have departed this life before her, including her cherished mother, Johnnie Mae Martinez, her father, Moses Johnson, and her step-father, Pedro. Though they are separated by the passage of time, their bonds remain unbroken, and her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she has left behind.
As we gather to celebrate the wonderful life of Karen Jean Johnson, we invite all whose lives she touched to join us in honoring her memory. The visitation will take place on March 14, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Church of God Gospel Tabernacle, followed by a heartfelt Celebration of Life from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM at the same location. Following these services, we will lay her to rest at Oak Hill Burial Park at 12:45 PM.
In her timeless essence, Karen Jean will be remembered as someone who genuinely cared for others, someone who brought laughter to every gathering, and someone whose legacy will continue to inspire. Her life, though far too short, left an indelible impact on our hearts and souls, and she will be sorely missed but forever cherished.
