Hugh P. Gray, known fondly to many as Richard, passed away on April 19, 2026, in Kissimmee, Florida. Born on May 9, 1946, in Portland, Jamaica, his journey was one marked by dedication, kindness, and a deep commitment to family and community.
From an early age, Hugh’s life was shaped by change and resolve. Leaving Jamaica at the tender age of nine, he continued his childhood and education in England, an experience that no doubt cultivated the breadth and wisdom that would characterize his gentle nature. Throughout his years, he harbored a sincere love for music—especially reggae—and a quiet humility that made him both uplifting and deeply loveable to those around him.
Hugh’s career was rooted in his passion for the outdoors and nurturing growth, as he found joy in garden work which blossomed into a professional path as a landscaping supervisor at Westgate Resort. Beyond his work, his true pride lay in being a steadfast family man, a role he embraced with unwavering devotion and love.
He was a remarkable husband to Radica Gray; their life together full of shared joy, BBQs, cookouts, playing dominoes, and the warmth of music and laughter. Hugh cherished spending time with his children—Edmon and Yvonne Gray—his grandchildren Laysha, Joel, Josiah, and Noah, as well as his beloved sister Shirley Gray. While the loss of his son Robert Gray and grandson Isaiah Gray left a profound void, Hugh’s enduring presence held the family tightly woven together.
A man of quiet strength and kindness, Hugh was the embodiment of respect and wisdom. Those who knew him recall a gentleman who was always there for his loved ones—a pillar of support and love. His daily joys included watching sports and the news, savoring good food, and the companionship of his two beloved puppies, Blue and Bella. Gardening was not merely a hobby but a reflection of his nurturing spirit, tending to the earth as he did his family and friendships.
The visitation will be held on May 2, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at Richard Funeral Services located at 233 N. 9th Street, Haines City, Florida. Following will be the burial service from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM at the same location. These moments of gathering will honor a life that was quietly extraordinary, a life that brought light and love to all who crossed its path.
Hugh P. Gray leaves behind a legacy rich with love, kindness, and a testament to the power of family unity. He was a man who lived humbly but whose impact resonates boldly in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him. As we remember him, we hold fast to the countless memories of his uplifting presence, his gentlemanly grace, and his profound love—a tapestry woven with warmth, unwavering strength, and the enduring melody of his favorite reggae rhythms.
