Esmond Gregory Lawrence, affectionately known as "Ice," embarked on his final journey on May 24, 2025, in Winter Haven, Florida, leaving behind a legacy woven with love, laughter, and a vibrant spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew him. Born on May 9, 1953, in the enchanting land of Trinidad, West Indies, Esmond moved to the United States at the tender age of four. His youthful exuberance and relentless curiosity eventually led him to high school in Pennsylvania and a trade school for culinary arts, where he honed skills that would serve him well throughout his life.
With the determination of a craftsman and the heart of a family man, Esmond transformed his knowledge of mechanics and engine repair into a cherished career. He possessed a unique knack for building engines from scratch, a skill he executed with remarkable precision and memory, resulting in proud moments that defined his journey, particularly seeing his firstborn graduate from college. His passion for classic race cars was more than a hobby; it was an intense love affair. The thrill of the track was his playground, where he reveled in the roar of engines and the kinship among fellow enthusiasts.
He was a man of warmth and approachability, embodying an open and friendly demeanor that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. At the supermarket, conversations flowed effortlessly as he connected with strangers over a shared love for hot rods, endearing him to many who crossed his path. His willingness to lend a hand, coupled with a heart brimming with kindness, marked him as an extraordinary friend and family member. The love he shared with his wife, Regina Lawrence, and the joyful moments spent with his children and grandchildren, Jamar (Aritha), Enoch, and Ancient, speak volumes of a life well-lived.
In times of laughter and play, Esmond flourished, becoming a cherished companion to his grandkids. Together, they cherished precious memories, ensconced in the lighthearted spirit that he so effortlessly brought into their lives. His devotion to family was echoed in the many bonds he nurtured with his siblings — Joseph (Sylvia), Cecilia (Henry), Patricia (Joseph), Florence (Ernest), and sister-in-law Patricia (Roger) Smith, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and a host of family and friends.
Esmond's legacy carries the memories of those who have gone before him, including his beloved parents, Joseph and Mary Lawrence, his sister Norma Norman, and his son Asmar Lawrence. They, too, contributed to the rich tapestry of his life, echoing through tales of wisdom and joy that he carried in his heart.
A celebration of Esmond's vibrant life will take place on June 14, 2025, at Richard Funeral Services in Haines City, Florida. Attendees may gather for a viewing from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a heartfelt Celebration of Life from 1:00 PM to 2:15 PM.
