Dotlyn Leanna Lovetta Cox was born in Nassau, Bahamas on August 29, 1966, to her
joyous parents Milton and Leanna Cox. She was the final child of 11 children, to include
seven brothers and three sisters who adored their baby sister. Her friends and family
lovingly called her Dottie, which she preferred. Dottie received her early education at
Bahamas Academy. Dottie had a passion for young children and worked as a pre-
school instructor in Nassau for several years. Her nieces and nephews were the
recipients of this love of little ones and share many fond memories of her spoiling them.
Years later she relocated to Florida and lived primarily with her sister Trudie. While in
Florida she faithfully attended church and actively engaged in various church activities.
During this time she was a part of several prayer groups and had numerous prayer
partners that loved her dearly. If the doors of the church were open, Dottie wanted to be
there. She sincerely loved the Lord and was never too shy to pray if called upon, even
without notice. Her Bible, magnifying glass, and highlighter were her trusty companions,
and she truly studied to show her self approved. While living in Florida, she attended
Mid Florida Tech briefly and enjoyed her classes, as well as the colorful people she met.
While residing in the US, she moved to Texas for some time and raved about her
experiences there. She enjoyed traveling and was able to visit family and friends in
Wisconsin, Illinois, North Carolina, Georgia, and Maryland.
Despite a cancer diagnosis in 2021, Dottie valiantly fought back undergoing radiation,
chemotherapy, surgeries, wound care, and various other treatments. She never
complained; instead, she encouraged others and trusted in whatever outcome God
allowed. Most recently, her symptoms worsened, but her light never dimmed. Those
who knew Dottie have no doubts of her freshly minted crown and residence upon
heaven’s streets of gold. She promised her sisters that she would tell their parents that
all the siblings loved and missed them. She was strong and effervescent until her last
days. In her final week, she mustered the strength to respond “Love you too” to her
family, despite her pain and heavy medications. Dotlyn peacefully transitioned into the
arms of her beloved Savior on the evening of October 18, 2025.
Dotlyn leaves behind a host of loved ones that miss her dearly. She was preceded in
death by her parents Milton and Leanna Cox and three of her brothers, Frelon
(Glenda) Cox, Marvin (Jackie) Cox, and Milton Jr. Cox, Esq.
Dotlyn will forever be cherished in the heart of her siblings, brothers Reverend
Yelverton (Jennymae), Beauford, Cardie, and Orville (Clarice) Cox; and her sisters
