Annie Ruth Carter

March 9, 1943 — July 29, 2022

Annie Ruth Carter, also known as "Ann" or "Ms. Ann," was born on March 9, 1943, to the late Earlie Mae Hilliard and Charlie Coleman in Geneva County, Alabama. After the loss of her mother, Annie took joy in helping her oldest sister, Margaret Brown, care for her and her siblings and ensured they understood their schoolwork. Annie was well known for being intelligent and graduated from Hartford High School as Valedictorian in 1960.

Upon relocating to Florida from Alabama, Annie gave her life to Christ as a young lady at The House of God Kingdom Dominion Church in Plant City, Florida. She worked as a domestic engineer in various families' homes. In the early 1980s, Annie worked at Lakeland Regional Hospital in Environmental Services. After Annie retired from Lakeland Regional Medical Center, she began to enjoy her family, attend day programs, and conduct secretarial duties. Annie's ultimate enjoyment was attending church and witnessing God's goodness. Annie's hobbies included playing Bingo, completing crossword puzzles, singing praises to God, and spending time with family and friends. Annie took great pleasure in being a member of New Bethel A.M.E. Church in Lakeland, Florida, for over 25 years. Annie served on the Stewardess board and the Women's Missionary Society.

Annie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Bobby Jr. Carter, and sister Bobbie Ross. She leaves behind her most cherished memory of six children, three sons: Michael Carter (Quennedda) of Daytona Beach, FL; Bobby Carter and Eric Carter of Lakeland, FL; three daughters: Barbara Mosely (Reginald) of Knoxville, TN; Venesia Carter, and Gloria Carter of Lakeland, FL; stepson: Benny Lee Carter; Siblings: Dr. Margaret Brown of Los Angeles, CA; Bessie Lee Godwin (Jessie) of Norfolk, VA, Aquilla Smith (late Frank Smith) of Palm Coast, FL; Linda Long (Alfred) of Harrisburg, PA.; brothers: Maurice Ross and Kenneth Ross of Harrisburg, PA; grandchildren: Michael Carter Jr., Devanshae Broadnax, Byron Mosely, Raeven Broadnax, Jessica Corea (Gary), Mavaria Carter, Raushod Floyd, Shianne Carter, Eric K.
