It is with a broken heart and immeasurable sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved father, Dr. Alexis Echevarria, who left this world on July 23, 2025. Born on July 26, 1955, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, my dad was a brilliant light in our lives, wise beyond words, endlessly curious, effortlessly funny, and full of compassion that touched everyone he met.
Raised in Corral Viejo, he held tightly to the memories of his childhood and wore his Puerto Rican pride like a badge of honor. He found happiness in the simple joys; watching a good game, playing sports with his kids, and telling stories that made us laugh until we cried. His love for sports wasn’t just a hobby, it was a language he used to connect with us, to cheer us on, and to be present in every meaningful moment.
He poured his heart into everything he did, as a physician, a father, a husband, and a friend. A devoted dad to four, he was our loudest cheerleader, our wisest guide, and our fiercest protector. He believed in showing up, in loving hard, and in always doing the right thing, even when it wasn’t easy. Orlando was our happy place, filled with family trips, laughter, and the magic he loved so much that he chose to spend his retirement there.
Papi never stopped learning. He was a true thinker and teacher, sharing his thoughts on history, world events, and poetry with anyone who would listen, or read his heartfelt Facebook posts. He dreamed big, worked tirelessly, and sacrificed much to give us a life filled with opportunity and love. His time as a Captain in the U.S. Army and over two decades running his own medical practice were testaments to his discipline, service, and care for others.
But perhaps his greatest legacy is the love he had for our mom, Rosa, his “Puchu” of over 50 years. Theirs was a love story filled with warmth, humor, loyalty, and an unshakeable bond that taught us what real love looks like.
On May 31, he shared a post on Facebook that read, “no siempre hay mañana”, (there’s not always tomorrow). And indeed, as much as it breaks our hearts, there was no tomorrow for him. But there were yesterdays and so many beautiful days that he filled with laughter, love, and purpose. We will never forget them or him.
While our hearts are shattered and our world feels smaller without him, we take comfort in the incredible memories he leaves behind, the stories, the laughter, the hugs, the lessons. Please keep our family in your thoughts as we navigate this painful and devastating loss.
Descansa en paz, Papi. We will carry your love in everything we do. You may be gone from this world, but you will live forever in the heartbeats of those who love you. Our family will now always be incomplete without you.
